Project Spotlight: Original Sonic Drive-In Renovations, Stillwater, OK
Stillwater, Oklahoma is home to America’s original Sonic. This historic location can be found just down the street from Bank SNB’s main bank, at the corner of 6th and Main.
Roger and David Castleberry have been Bank SNB customers since 2004, and over the years, we have provided financing for several of their expansion and development projects. Most recently, the Castleberry duo approached Bank SNB for financial support to renovate the original Sonic location in Stillwater. They felt inspired to bring the facility up to date, while maintaining its nostalgic essence.
Bank SNB banker Kevin Fowler helped secure loans for the restaurant build-out and new equipment. America’s original Sonic was refreshed with state-of-the-art kitchen equipment – an ideal set-up for making Sonic’s famous Footlong Cheese Coney’s and handmade onion rings – and a 20-foot wall of equipment dedicated entirely to shake and ice cream production. Every drive-in stall now features interactive menus, and the patio has a 6-foot fire feature. The restaurant’s updated exterior also includes a life-size bronze statue of the first Sonic manager, Gene Longworth.
A good community partner, Sonic donated the formerly used ice cream machine to a local Stillwater church. Renovations were completed and the updated restaurant reopened to the Stillwater community in September.
